Investigation Committee de Winter into Violence in Youth Care

Liesbeth van Duyneveldt has assisted many victims of sexual abuse within the RK church over the past 6 years (see www.meldpuntseksueelmisbruikrkk.nl). Many of them had experienced not only sexual abuse but also physical and psychological violence.

Our office is therefore following with interest the progress of the investigation by the De Winter committee. The De Winter committee is investigating the extent to which minors who have been under government responsibility in state institutions and foster families since 1945 have been confronted with physical and psychological abuse. The results of the preliminary investigation were presented on May 17, 2016, to Minister Van der Steur (Security and Justice) and State Secretary Van Rijn (Public Health, Welfare and Sport). The committee concludes in its report that it is meaningful and feasible to start a follow-up investigation, a conclusion that is confirmed by the cabinet.

Although no formal reporting point has yet been established, individuals can report their own experiences to the Youth Care Violence Investigation Committee, info@commissiegeweldjeugdzorg.nl
