On 2 October, the House of Representatives adopted the bill Introducing Extra Birth Leave (WIEG). This means that, as of 1 January 2019, the partner will receive longer leave during the maternity period.<\/p>\n
The statutory paternity leave for the partner is currently only two days. In addition, the partner is entitled to three days of unpaid parental leave.<\/p>\n
From 1 January 2019 the partner can once receive paid leave equal to the weekly working hours. This must be taken within 4 weeks after the birth. On top of that, a partner will soon be able to take an additional five weeks of leave in the first six months after the birth. UWV then pays 70% of the salary during this period.<\/p>\n
