Civil servant soon no longer a civil servant

The Senate passed the Civil Servants’ Legal Status Normalization Act last week. This will come into effect in mid-2017.

The main change is that the civil servant status will be abolished. In addition, the following changes will take place

  • The appointment ‘by operation of law’ is converted into an employment contract signed by both parties.
  • The professional and objection procedures are replaced by procedures at the UWV or the subdistrict court.
  • The employment position schemes are converted into collective labor agreements.

A new Civil Servants Act is being introduced, which will establish the special rights and obligations applicable to civil servants, alongside the private law that will also apply to current civil servants.
