New in the WWZ was that a sick employee, upon dismissal after two years of illness, can also claim compensation, namely the transition compensation. This has led to an increase in the number of ‘dormant employment contracts’ this past year, where the sick employee remains officially employed but no longer works and does not receive a salary.
Minister Asscher has therefore drafted a bill to compensate employers from the General Unemployment Fund (Awf) in these cases. At this moment, it is expected that this will take effect as of January 1, 2018.
